On March 27 of this year, the Central Asian Online Forum on the development of Gender Equality policy was held in Tashkent. The event was organized by the World Bank in cooperation with the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs of Uzbekistan.
The participants of the event discussed the policies, legislation and institutional measures taken by government agencies and parliaments in their countries to achieve gender equality in various fields. In particular, the experience of women's participation in the implementation of the Rural Infrastructure Development project, which has been funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank since 2020 and covers remote villages in five regions of the country, was presented by community mobilization specialist Munojotkhon Muradova.
Within the framework of the project, sub-projects are implemented through decisions made by members of the mahalla development group, consisting of rural activists. Rural development plans and their implementation processes are monitored by the members of this group. It is worth noting that 50% of the group's members are women.
The results of the conducted social audit showed that almost all the selected women's subprojects reflected their needs, which means that the role of women in decision-making played an important role and showed its effectiveness
At the event, it was recognized that the platforms created on the basis of all the activities carried out within the framework of the project can serve as a basis for increasing women's economic activity in the future.
